2010 - the 15th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre July 11th 1995

Jedes Jahr wird am 11 July dem Massaker gedacht. Da die Leichen in Massengräbern verscharrt worden sind können die Knochen erst nach und nach identifiziert werden. Die IMCP International Commission in Missing Persons arbeitet kontinuierlich an der Identifizierung. Jedes Jahr können die Gebeine mehrer hundert Ermordeter bestattet werden.
Zunächst legen internationale Politiker Kränze ab. Die Angehörigen und Interessierte warten außerhalb der stundenlangen Zeremonie auf dem fast schattenlosen Friedhof. Wenn die Beerdigung mit dem Verlesen der Namen und dem Schultern der Särge (meist durch Angehörige) begonnen hat, verschwinden die internationalen Politiker. Die Angehörigen (Männer) lassen die Särge in die Erde und Schaufeln die Gräber zu.  

wikipedia: Im Sommer 1992 begann die dreijährige Belagerung der Stadt. Erst im März 1993 traf der erste Hilfskonvoi der UN in Srebrenica ein. Zwischenzeitlich hatte sich die Bevölkerungszahl durch Flüchtlinge aus den umliegenden Gebieten deutlich erhöht. Einen Monat später wurde offiziell eine UN-Schutzzone eingerichtet.

Internationale Aufmerksamkeit erfuhren im Juli 1995 die Stadt und die Lage der Flüchtlinge in der bosniakischen Enklave – damals UN-Schutzzone – , als bosnische Serben unter Führung des Generals Ratko Mladić die Stadt eroberten und alle männlichen Personen, derer sie habhaft werden konnten, verschleppten und im Massaker von Srebrenica ermordeten. Die Rolle der niederländischen Blauhelm-Soldaten und die ihres Kommandanten Thomas Karremans, die nicht entschieden einschritten, um die Morde zu verhindern, ist bis heute umstritten. Die jahrelange Diskussion in den Niederlanden und der 2002 veröffentlichte kritische Report des Niederländischen Instituts für Kriegsdokumentation führte aber im April 2002 zum Rücktritt der zweiten Regierung von Wim Kok
